A MAN accused of a serious wounding in Ulverston has had the case against him dropped.

Philip Ross, 53, of Emm Lane, Bradford, was due to stand trial at Preston Crown Court today when the prosecution offered no evidence against him.

He had earlier pleaded not guilty to a charge of wounding with intent upon Faieza Saleem on September 6 last year.

Paul Cummings, for the prosecution, told the court that the Crown proposed to offer no evidence against the defendant, after consulting with a doctor.  That doctor is a Home Office pathologist who felt the evidence was consistent with both sides of the stories.

The prosecution applied for a restraining order.

Oliver Jarvis, defending, said his client would not oppose the request for a restraining order.  He had absolutely no intention at all of having any contact with the female in the case.

The judge, Recorder Roger Farley QC, directed that a not guilty verdict be entered.

A restraining order was made barring the defendant from approaching her, having any direct or indirect contact, or going within a hundred yards of her address.
