A SOUTH Lakes school 'swing' band will be one of the star attractions at one of the district's top outdoor spring events.

The ensemble from Ulverston Victoria High School (UVHS), which has wowed audiences throughout the region, will entertain visitors to this year's Holker Garden Festival.

They will perform at the festival bandstand on Friday, May 29.

Festival manager, Jillian Rouse said: “We’re thrilled that UVHS Swing Band will be attending. The bandstand is right at the heart of the festival and is one of our most popular elements.

"It will be wonderful to have the sound of their music echoing out across the showground, and even better to have home grown, Cumbrian talent taking centre stage."

Performances will be from 12noon to 12.45pm, and again at 2pm to 2.45pm.

The UVHS Swing Band, sponsored by CGP Broughton, plays numerous public, private and corporate engagements around the region, and has also achieved great success on a national scale, being ranked as the top state school jazz band in the UK for the last three years.

Richard Butler, head of performing Arts at UVHS, said: “We are delighted to have been invited to play at this year’s Holker Garden Festival. It is a fabulous opportunity for the musicians at UVHS to be able to play at such a prestigious event, made even more special because it is also local.

"We very much look forward to entertaining the crowds and helping show off South Cumbria to the rest of the country.”
