PLANS to put up a marquee at Cartmel Racecourse for the duration of the racing season have been lodged with South Lakeland District Council.
The white canvas marquee would be used for hospitality and catering from mid-May to mid-September, according to planning documents.
On race days, the structure would house private hospitality chalets; a bar for racehorse owners, trainers and racecourse members; and a restaurant for racegoers.

Between times, the marquee would be used for events such as weddings, private functions, markets and auctions, for which the location is already licensed.
The plans, submitted by Jonathan Garratt of Holker Group, state that the marquee would be sited south of the grandstand, parallel to the finishing straight, where the temporary marquee is usually put up as and when needed.
