PUPILS and staff of Sedbergh School reached new heights in the quest to beat breast cancer.

Around of 450 pupils dressed-up in pink and climbed the 473 metre summit of Winder Fell in the Howgills to raise money for Breast Cancer Support charity The Haven.

Tea and pink-themed cakes were served in the school’s Powell Hall afterwards and the night before a full school social was held with a pink dress code.

Event organiser Jackie Walkom said: “I was thrilled with the extent of the support from pupils and staff. Everyone really embraced this wonderful cause and eagerly bought into the ‘dress in pink’ theme, especially some of the boys!

"In excess of £1,000 was raised for The Haven, which will enable them to provide a full programme of help for one visitor – a wonderful result from a wonderful weekend.

“I am a breast cancer survivor – one of the lucky ones. I was treated 17 years ago when I lived in Australia. After meeting someone from The Haven last year and hearing about the amazing work they do, I applied for a place to run for the charity in the London Marathon next month. I wanted to raise awareness and am extremely grateful for the support from the school community.”
