A COMMUNITY has come together to draw up an action plan to improve the local area.

Around 80 people gathered at Endmoor to celebrate the launch of Preston Richard's Community Plan which will see people join together to tackle issues close to their hearts.

Glenn Smithers, of Endmoor, said: "We want to give the community a voice so we wanted to make a plan that was inclusive."

Two years in the making, the community plan is the product of a 16-strong working group.

It was compiled from the findings of a questionnaire hand-delivered to every household in the parish, incorporating Endmoor and the hamlets of Crooklands, Birkrigg Park, Milton, Low Park, and Summerlands.

With 35 per cent of home owners filling in the answers and sending them back, the working group were able to create a digestible community plan that highlights the problems and how to go about solving them.

High on the group's list of priorities is traffic and travel and litter.

"We've got issues with speeding cars so we'd like to get a speed indicator device," added Mr Smithers, who us already part of a speed watch programme which has seen 1,000 motorists being contacted by police. "We've now got to start doing something,"

Next on the agenda for the group is a litter pick.
