A LEVENS councillor is taking her charity fundraising to new extremes by tackling a full marathon at the North Pole tomorrow (April 10).
Annie Rawlinson is one of 45 contestants braving sub-zero temperatures as low as -40 degrees to complete 26.2 miles circumnavigating the pole.
The race is the latest in a series of gruelling challenges for Mrs Rawlinson, who celebrated her 50th birthday last year by running a tough Siberian marathon.

Mrs Rawlinson, who runs NJO Technology in Kendal with her husband and represents Levens on South Lakeland District Council, is raising funds and awareness for the Samaritans.
During the marathon, she and her fellow runners will be protected by armed polar bear guards, with just a few feet of ice separating them from the Arctic Ocean below.
