A MAN following a magazine article was winched to safety after getting stranded on a Lake District crag.
The cragfast scrambler was forced to call 999 yesterday (April 8) from Greenhow End, on the Fairfield Horseshoe, when he became stuck and unable to climb up or down.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called to assist and requested a Royal Air Force Sea King helicopter and help from Penrith MRT to aid the man using a magazine and guidebook.

The Sea King crew winched him onto the aircraft and returned him to Patterdale.
A spokesperson for the team warned: "Many of the scrambling routes still have some snow on them and many haven't been used all winter and are covered in loose stone and debris."
