A MAN who brandished a broken bottle as he threatened three terrified people at a bus stop has been jailed for two years.

Jason Irvine, 25, was high on drink and drugs when the incident occurred in Kendal on January 17. He urinated in front of the trio and then threatened to stab a female in the face with a jagged piece of the bottle as she objected.

As his violent behaviour continued, Irvine spat at another member of the group who was calling police and then told them he had a knife in his rucksack.

This was recovered by officers who were quickly on the scene.

At Carlisle Crown Court today, Irvine, of no fixed address, was sent to prison having admitted two charges of possessing offensive weapons.

Judge Batty, who imposed a two-year term as a deterrent to Irvine and others, told him: "Goodness knows what would have happened hadn't the police only have been two minutes away. They were able to arrive quickly, subdue you and arrest you."
