Staff and students at Furness College are celebrating the publication of their Ofsted report which places the college among the very best in the country for those that have been inspected this year.

Furness was judged to be a Good college but there is particular cause for celebration over the awarding of an Outstanding grade 1 for Engineering, one of very few awarded across the country.  Principal Anne Attwood said “We are absolutely delighted with the report but particularly the outstanding judgement for engineering.  Engineering is so important to the current and future Furness economy and it is testament to our commitment to students and employers in the area that we have received this recognition”.

Chair of Governors John Butler stated “I would just like to thank leaders, staff and students at the college for their commitment and dedication which has now been recognised by Ofsted.  The college continues to be well placed in providing very high quality learning opportunities for both students and employers from the Furness area”.

The report gives clear guidance on what Furness College needs to do to become an overall outstanding college.  The college is now fully committed to implementing the recommendations that have been outlined in the report.
