THE results have started to be announced for the Barrow Borough Council local elections. 

Six seats are already guaranteed for Labour after the Ormsgill and Hindpool Wards went uncontested.

The results announced so far are: 

Central Ward: 

Two Labour wins for Trevor Biggins (840 votes) and Alec Proffitt (690 votes). Colin Rudd (Ukip) got 380 votes and missed out.

Walney North:

Three Labour wins for Tony Callister (1,208 votes) , Des Barlow (1,452 votes), Anita Husband (1,344). Diane Marie-Williams Williams for Ukip missed out with 780.

Risedale:

Three more Labour wins for Lesley Graham (1,310 votes), Kevin Hamilton (1,361 votes), Hayley Preston (1,474 votes). Ukip's Geoff Bowron (438 votes) and Alan Taylor (Ukip) 348 missed out.

Dalton South: 

One win for Conservative Bill Bleasdale (1,243 votes), and two for Labour Wendy Maddox (1,298 votes) and Gordon Murray (1,218 votes). Ann English (Con) missed out with 1,040 and Des English (Con) missed out with 1,040. Ernie Wilson (Lab) also missed out with 1,091.

Barrow Island: 

Labour won Barrow Island with Allison Johnston (589 votes) beating Ukip's Steve Atkinson (328 votes). 

Before the election Labour held a majority on the council with 29 seats. 

They need 19 of 36 seats to secure a majority this time around.
