A DRUNKEN man caused criminal damage to two cars in an unprovoked attack in Kendal town centre, a court heard.

Callam Canning, 22, was found to be in possession of drugs after police were called to reports of a man standing in the middle of the road and kicking cars.

Canning, of Stricklandgate, Kendal, flew into a rage and threw a bottle at a passing Vauxhall Zafira and then kicked a Hyundai Accent, South Cumbria Magistrates Court was told.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage and one of possessing a class C drug. He was fined £900.

The court heard members of the public desperately tried to calm Canning down but were unable to do so and when police arrived he was arrested.

While in custody, the controlled class C drug diazepam was found in his possession.

In mitigation John Batty claimed Canning did not remember any of the incident as he had been drinking heavily and using drugs.
