WHEN it came to breaking out of their shells to put on a cracking Easter display the pupils of Queen Elizabeth School proved themselves to be 'eggstraordinarily' talented, reports Michaela Robinson-Tate.

More than 200 youngsters from the Kirkby Lonsdale school's Year 7 put their creative thinking caps on to come up with a selection of decorated eggs that have proved to be 'eggsceptionally' popular.

Bank robber eggs, sunbathing eggs, egg sheep on a fell side and eggs decorated as mice were among the creations dreamed up by the 11 and 12-year-olds, designed to link in with particular shops around the town.

Around 130 of the eggs are being displayed in shop windows, where they have proved to be a popular talking point with locals and visitors alike.

The competition, which is now in its fifth year, was introduced by the school's head of art, Emma Denby.

the overall school prize went to Hattie Clay for her creation which featured eggs in bras, in a scene created for the lingerie, shoes and bag shop, Bijou Blue.
