EAGER volunteers gave the Kendal Lads and Girls Club a makeover which included repainting its outer walls and also rejuvenating the garden area.

They spent a day freshening up the outside of the centre on Beezon Fields with a ‘summer blue’ that makes it much tidier and visible to the general public.

South Lakes Housing and its partners Bell Group UK and Crown Paints supplied the paint, labour and materials.

Lyn Richardson, Community Engagement Officer of South Lakes Housing, said: “This was an exciting project for the centre and has provided a new freshness to how it looks."

Centre manager Ian Parr thanked Carl Leadbitter, business manager at Santander's Stricklandgate Branch, for all his hard work on the day and Bell Group staff for 'an excellent job well done.'

Sandra Liddell, of Bell Group UK, said: “ The Lads and Girls Club is such an important part of the local community and we were delighted to help out with its mini-makeover. “

The Kendal Lads and Girls Club is a registered charity which manages a youth centre which hosts seven voluntary organisations, with around 150 young people a week using the facilities.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the building and the committee has plans for renovation work to celebrate the anniversary and ensure the facilities remain open and fit for purpose for the future.

Current renovation projects include a new boiler and heating system, refresh paint work and to upgrade the facilities to give greater access for young people with disabilities.
