THE search is on to find the 2015 Cumbria Woman of the Year.

Members of the public are being encouraged to nominate 'a hidden gem' who deserves to be recognised for the significant contribution they make.

Foster carer Doreen Beattie, from Kirkoswald, was chosen last year to receive the award for a lifetime dedicated to caring for vulnerable children and also the elderly.

Nominations are being sought about ordinary people who work tirelessly to make a significant difference to those around them. They are the dependable type of people who can always be relied upon in a crisis or they may be a dedicated pioneer for a cause or charity, a committed volunteer or carer, inspirational leader or ground breaker.

It may also be someone who has devoted many years to the service of others or helped others through their own triumph over adversity. They may have excelled in the arts or sport or their special creativity.

The event is in its 26th year and committee chairwoman Tess Hart said: “We know there are still many good women out there who don’t consider what they do as ‘special’ but they are the glue that holds a lot of communities together and although they do not seek reward we would like the opportunity to give them a very special day to thank them for all the great work they do."

Nomination forms can be obtained by going to www.cumbriawomenoftheyear.co.uk and should be sent to CWY, Briar Bank, Langdale Crescent, Windermere LA23 2HE.

Include as much information as possible about the nominee and return the form before September 30.
