SOUTH Cumbrian mum-of-two Kristel Kemp found her inner warrior twice over to raise £3,823 for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
Kristel Kemp, 35, of Baycliff, completed a Wandering Warrior Challenge of walking 35 Wainwright fells in five days.
On day six, instead of resting, she took part in the Total Warrior Race being staged at Shap – a 10 kilometre obstacle run that featured walls to scale, mud pits and tunnels to crawl through. Kristel came home 94th out of 1,500 women.
An occasional runner but a keen walker, Kristel took on her dual challenge as a thank you to Rosemere for treatment her brother Jamie, 40, received at the regional specialist Rosemere Cancer Centre in Preston after being diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2010.
Jamie, who lives in Barrow and is a married dad-of-two, is now fit and well. Kristel said: “It was my brother’s treatment that drove me to wanting to do a fundraiser. I’ll always be very grateful to everyone at the Rosemere Cancer Centre for the fact that he’s still here.”
Kristel, who works in Supply Chain at BAE Systems in Barrow, added: “The first couple of days of my Wandering Warrior Challenge were in awful weather. There was thunder and lightening and my mobile phone completely broke from the water so I had no GPS. A couple of bad turns in the mist meant that I walked 38 fells in the end.”
Kristel has made a short video diary of her feat, which can be viewed on You Tube at https://youtu.be/0 8CrsBtJqU
