A QUALIFIED riding instructor and veterinary nurse has been appointed to oversee the newly completed equine facilities at Newton Rigg College in Eden.

Chloe Walker, who has ten years' experience in a similar role, says one of her key aims is to develop the equestrian section into a leading competition centre.

Chloe, who gained a degree in agriculture and biological sciences at Newcastle University, is looking forward to building on Newton Rigg’s £380,000 investment into the redevelopment of its equine facilities.

The improvements include a new indoor school with spectator gallery and the resurfacing of the outdoor arena, new stabling and the refurbishment of the equine administration and lecture hub.

She said: “I want to develop our competition centre into a commercial enterprise to cater for competitors from across the North West and from Scotland, as well as ensuring that our students are the first choice for employers."

Equine courses offered at Newton Rigg College range from Level 2 and Level 3 diplomas in equine management and horse care.
