A NEW £140,000 changing room pavilion on the Recreation Field at Burton-in-Lonsdale was officially opened on Saturday.

The project was made possible thanks to a £50,000 grant from the Premier League through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF) and the same amount was also awarded by Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.

The ribbon was cut by Kathleen Salrein, long-time village resident, and Abigail Rollinson, daughter of the late Julie Rollinson, one of the founders of the Burton Regeneration Group, a project partner alongside the parish council. Craven District Council also contributed towards the project.

The funding has enabled Burton United Football Club and the parish council to build a new two-team changing pavilion, complete with one officials’ changing room, showers and toilet facilities. There are also disabled access toilets, a large clubroom and storage space.

Among the guests was Julian Smith, MP for Skipton and Ripon, Cllr Robert Mason, chairman of Craven District Council, Peter Marsden, life member and past president of the West Riding County FA and Margaret Mason, chairman of the Burton Regeneration Group.
