A WORK party cleared overgrown vegetation on the Lancaster Canal to open up views of the old Carnforth coke ovens.
Fourteen volunteers also removed overgrowth from the footpath between the A6, the towpath and a bridge that was barely visible for leaves, said Frank Sanderson of the Lancaster Canal Trust.
Mr Sanderson said the bridge is unique because it had rollers rather than cast iron chaffing irons to take the tow ropes, adding: "It must have had a hard life, for steel bars have been fitted holding it together."
The working party was led by Alice Kay of the Canal and River Trust, and the Friends of Carnforth Coke Ovens, under Brian Crawley. To find out more, visit https://canalrivertrust.org.uk and www.lctrust.co.uk
