WINDERMERE and Ambleside Lions Club has twinned with compatriots from Limoux in southern France at a lunch in the Lake District.

Members of the two clubs met at the Waterhead Hotel in Ambleside to enjoy lunch and formally twin, starting an exciting relationship together. Seven members of the French club came to visit the area and hand over banners to officially signify the twinning.

Limoux is famous for its sparkling wine, a precursor to Champagne which was enjoyed by all at the lunch to formalise the twinning.

Speaking at the event Limoux Lion President Christian Mallet spoke saying: "Thank you for your excellent hospitality and we look forward to an exciting future together."

On behalf of Windermere and Ambleside Lions Vice Chair Steve Bateman gave an address wholly in French thanking the Lions of Limoux for visiting and for bringing such excellent wine for everyone to enjoy.
