HUNDREDS of Cumbrian young farmers and their supporters enjoyed a successful day of competitions on Saturday, May 21, as they competed in the Southern District Annual Field Day.
The event, hosted by Broughton YFC, was held at Whicham Hall Farm, Whicham Valley, Silecroft by kind permission of the Capstick Family, and saw over 70 competitions on the day.
These included the tide on mower obstacle course, won by Callum Smith from Eden Valley YFC and the senior floral art, won by Rebecca Knipe from Cartmel YFC.
The Tug-of-war competition was fiercely fought, with Sedbergh YFC winning both the men's and ladies's competitions. Grayrigg YFC gave a fantastic effort and won the junior competition.
The 19 Pre-Field Day classes were won overall by Kent Estuary YFC with Sedbergh YFC placed second and Broughton YFC placed third. Machine Sheep Shearing, Open competition was won by Tom Redmayne from Crook YFC.
Stephen Dugdale, of Broughton YFC won the intermediate competition. The Open Hand Sheep Shearing was won by Tony Booth of Crook YFC, and the Intermediate competition was won by William Longmire of Lowick YFC.
The Northern District Field Day will be held on Saturday, May 28 at Calder Farm, Seascale by kind permission of the Fenwick Family.
