LAKE District legend Joss Naylor MBE will be running more than 30 miles this Saturday in memory of his father, and to celebrate his own 80th birthday.

Joss, a sheep farmer and well-known fell runner, will be running from Caldbeck to Wasdale.

He is running in memory of his father Joe, also a sheep farmer who was born in Caldbeck and moved to Wasdale in 1927.

The run sees Joss mark his own 80th birthday as well as being a fundraiser for the Ambleside- based youth charity Brathay Trust, which he has supported for many years.

On his Just Giving page Mr Naylor said: “I am running from Caldbeck to Low Greendale for Brathay Trust because disadvantaged young people deserve a better life.”

Mr Naylor’s running achievements include records which remain unbroken to this day.

In 2006, aged 70, he ran 70 Lakeland fell tops, covering more than 50 miles and ascending more than 25,000 feet, in under 21 hours.

In 1997, ageg 60, he ran 60 Lakeland fell tops in 36 hours.

And in 1986, age 50, he completed all 214 Wainwright fells in just seven days.

His other running achievements include: In 1971 he completed 61 peaks in 23 hours 37 minutes.

In 1972 he completed 63 peaks in 23 hours 35 minutes.

In 1973 he completed the Welsh 3000s - the 14 peaks of Snowdonia in 4 hours 46 minutes.

In 1974 he completed the Pennine Way in 3 days and 4 hours.

In 1975 he completed 72 peaks, approximately 100 miles and 38,000 feet of ascent in 23 hours 20 minutes.

In 1983 he completed the Lakes, Meres and Waters circuit of 105 miles in 19 hours 20 minutes.
