Three rescuers from Coniston Mountain Rescue Team made their way to the girls in what they described as ‘dangerous conditions’.

They then met the group, which had started to make its way downhill under instruction from the team.

The young women, aged 18 and under, were uninjured but very wet, cold and shaken.

They were taken to the team’s base in Coniston, where they were able to dry off and warm up with hot drinks while their group leaders were contacted to take them to their next scheduled campsite.
