Stories of the summer holidays have been shared and the brand new school shoes are being worn in, as the first school week of the year is well under way. Nearing the end of their first week in year one and year three, I pray for my daughters as they head off on a school trip to this year’s Westmorland County Show.

In my current role as one of the South Lakes Northern Inter Schools Christian Union (NISCU) schools worker, I have the privilege of going into primary and secondary schools to teach about Jesus Christ, as presented in the Bible. I am thankful for the growing number of invitations to serve in our schools, to lead RE lessons, collective worship, and lunchtime clubs. We link up with local Christians and churches wherever possible to support and facilitate ecumenical events such as year six transition and prayer space weeks for the schools in the South Lakes area.

It is so humbling to be able to serve in schools wanting to provide their students with the space to explore and express Christian beliefs. As a qualified teacher with 15 years experience in mainstream and special needs education, I have loved walking alongside, encouraging and facilitating children and young people to grow and learn to be the best they can be. Reiterating Pauline’s words from last week’s article, at NISCU we long to see young people hear about and respond to Jesus and His teachings on how to live.
