THE score of a film telling the true story of the assassination of one of the Nazi's most atrocious generals has been composed by a song writer from the South Lakes.

Endmoor-born Robin Foster wrote the music for the newly-released Anthropoid film – a WWII drama based on the true story of Operation Anthropoid - the code name for the attack on SS General Reinhard Heydrich by Exile Czechoslovak soldiers on May 27 1942.

Heydrich was the main architect behind the Final Solution, the Nazi plan to exterminate Jewish people, and the Reich's third in command after Adolf Hitler and Heinrich Himmler.

The film was released in cinemas last Thursday. It stars Cillian Murphy, of Peaky Blinders and Dark Knight rises fame, and Jamie Dornan, who starred in 50 Shades of Grey.

"The story is amazing," said Mr Foster. "It's a true story that not a lot of people really know much about. Sean Ellis (the film's writer) has really tried to keep as close to the facts as possible. It doesn't pull any punches, it really is quite a harrowing film."

Mr Foster became involved with the film's production due to his long-standing working relationship with Sean.

"We've been working together for the best part of 10 years – it started with an advert for Hugo Boss," said Mr Foster.

"We worked on his film Metro Manila a few years ago and then he came and said he had another film on the go and asked if I wanted to see the script and we started working on it from there."

Mr Foster's work on the 2013 screenplay Metro Manila was showcased at a special event at Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre, and that was one of the first films he worked on.

The former Queen Elizabeth School pupil started out writing his own music in bands, but says moving into cinema was something he always wanted to achieve.

"It's just more creative I think," he said. "It's a more intimate and personal way of working, the way you have an image to bounce off and be creative with. With this I was just able to use my instinct. Sean and I have a great way of working together after such a long time – I often just know what he wants."
