MORE than 1,200 people flocked to Sizergh Castle over the weekend for the sixth annual Greenwood Fair.

The ‘celebration of all things wood’ featured a packed day of activities, demonstrations, a flea circus and craft stalls and was the best attended the event has ever been.

Local group Red Rose Woodturners, demonstrated the lost art of woodturning and visitors to the Wood Matters stand were encouraged to take a unique handmade piece home with them.

Gary Everatt, Sizergh’s event coordinator, said: “I’d say the highlight was the tree climbing on the Saturday, which was great fun for the kids. It was the first time we have run the event over two days and it has proved a successful weekend."

Sizergh’s Ranger team were on hand all day helping visitors with broomstick making and using traditional shave horses to create gypsy flowers. They also showcased their ranger skills including chainsaw carving, alaskan milling and wood splitting techniques.
