A MAN has admitted carrying out a ferocious hammer attack as violence erupted after a football match in Kendal.

James Daniel Walker, 24, produced the weapon and lashed out at two men during disorder on March 28. Both were injured as trouble followed Kendal Town's Evo-Stik League clash against Lancaster City.

At Carlisle Crown Court, Walker pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding the men, and possessing an offensive weapon. He had previously admitted assaulting another man with a piece of wood during a separate night-time incident in the town in early January.

Walker was due to be punished for both sets of crimes by Recorder Michael Murray.

But after considering mitigation and information, the judge deferred sentence for six months. He opted to give Walker, of Oxenholme Road, Kendal, a chance to work with professionals to address personal problems.

He was bailed and will return to the crown court in early April, when Recorder Murray will decide on the most appropriate sentence.
