AN AMBLESIDE schoolboy has won a prize in a major photographic competition with a shot of his father climbing on a Scottish island.

Rowan Ashworth, aged nine, took the photo of his father Steve while on holiday at Huisnis on the island of Harris.

'Sunset Explorer' has been judged the best in the 'living the view' category in the junior Landscape Photographer of the Year contest.

Rowan’s photograph will be exhibited at London’s Waterloo – Britain’s busiest railway station – from November 21, and he will be awarded a copy of a book containing all the winning entries.

Rowan, a pupil at Ambleside Primary School and member of Ambleside AC fellrunners, used his father’s Nikon D750 camera to take the picture while the family was on holiday in Scotland in the summer.

He puts some of his photos on his own blog: http://fellbred.blogspot.co.uk.

The prestigious annual competition was founded in 2006 by Charlie Waite, one of the world’s most respected landscape photographers, and sponsored by Visit Britain.

It celebrates all that is great about the British landscape and showcases the work of many talented photographers, inspiring visitors to experience the joys of British landscapes at first hand.
