PROPERTY owners in Windermere are enjoying a surge in demand, as the UK's largest holiday cottage company reports a huge growth in winter bookings as more holidaymakers head to the Lake District this December.

Latest booking figures released by cottages.com reveal December bookings have increased by as much as 47 per cent compared to the same period in 2015.

The towns of Coniston, Ulverston and the Lakeland Peninsula all experienced high demand, while properties with hot tubs saw bookings go up by almost a quarter (21 per cent) over the last 12 months.

The boost in bookings for the area coincides with new research which found more Brits are likely to holiday at home next year, with 76 per cent already planning a staycation for 2017.
