A GHOST hunt is taking place after two signs advertising a spooky train ride were stolen from the side of the A6 in Carnforth.

Cinderbarrow railway at Yealand Redmayne holds Halloween ghost train rides every year, and two of the four signs advertising the event were stolen 48 hours after they were put in place.

The first ghost sign was taken 24 hours after it was put up, with the second one going missing on a separate occasion a day later.

The first theft was reported to the Lancashire police.

Debbie Griffiths, from the Lancaster and Morecambe Model Engineering Society, said: “It’s such a shame because so much work had gone into the signs, they took hours from the volunteers to make and they won't have time to make new ones before the event.”

Mrs Griffiths thinks the signs must have been dug up because they were placed in the ground.

“They were very cute ghosts. We did think this might happen”, she said. “The signs are bright florescent green so they will be easy to see if anyone puts them outside.”

Anyone who has seen the ghosts can contact the Cinderbarrow miniature railway on their Facebook page or at www.lmmes.co.uk

The Halloween night featuring ghost trains will be taking place at Cinderbarrow Picnic Site just off A6 at Yealand Redmayne tomorrow (October 29) between 5.30 and 9pm.

The participants are invited to dress up for the occasion and to bring their torches.
