NEARLY £2,000 was raised for the Multiple Sclerosis Society in two events at Kendal's Carus Green Golf Club.

Club president Alan Farnsworth, whose daughter suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, organised the fundraising events at the club, with all of the £1,750 proceeds going to fund further research into the condition.

The first event – a golf day – attracted 141 members from across the men’s, women’s and junior sections, with £500 raised from entry fees. Ian Aplin was the winner of the men’s section and Diane Billington, the winner of the ladies.

The second event was an evening hosted by local band ‘Comedy Show Time’, comprising five artists who perform together, and who offered their time for free. Their show is a series of comedy sketches and music.

The group, who have performed together for more than six years, do so on an entirely voluntary basis and have raised more than £35,000 for various charities during that time.

130 members and non-members attended the charity evening at the club, with £1,250 raised from tickets sales, a raffle and auction.

The cheque presentation was made during the President’s dinner to the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s area fundraiser Simon Moran.

He said: “It is clearly a cause very close to Alan’s heart. Without support like this, we would be unable to continue the vital research and local work that we do to support people with MS, until we can one day find a cure."

‘Comedy Show Time’ will be performing at Carus Green on January 27 in aid of Sandgate Hydrotherapy Pool in Kendal.
