THERE will be a traditional Lancashire theme to the Bolton-le-Sands village Christmas fair this Saturday (November 26).

Taking place on the eve of Lancashire Day, the festive event is to feature George Formby-style busking, a ukulele band and a visit from Father Christmas.

Rev Nancy Goodrich, of Holy Trinity Church, said Mothers' Union members were busy baking county delicacies such as currant-filled Eccles and Chorley cakes, 'tosset' cakes made with caraway and coriander seeds, and Lancashire cheese scones. "We are going all out for Lancashire," she told the Gazette.

The fair at Bolton-le-Sands community centre is from 1-4pm, admission £1, children free.

Lancashire Day - Sunday, November 27 - recalls the date in 1295 when the red rose county's first representatives were called to Westminster by King Edward I. A proclamation will be read out by town criers this Sunday. For more, follow #LancashireDay on Twitter.
