AFFORDABLE homes proposed for Cark-in-Cartmel village met with disapproval from planners.

Neighbours wrote 15 letters of objection raising concerns about the tidal flood risk from the River Eea being exacerbated for residents, and the lack of evidence of need for the new homes on land near Sunny Bank.

Lower Holker Parish Council said the houses would be outside Cark's development boundary, close to listed buildings and on land that had flooded in recent years.

South Lakeland District Council refused planning consent, stating that Blackpool-based company Go Developments had failed to demonstrate clear evidence of local support for the outline scheme, which did not specify how many houses would be built.
