THE Mayor of Kendal is sporting a florally festooned bonnet in a bid to encourage the town's green-fingered gardeners to enter one of the horticultural calendar's top competitions.
This year, Gwen Murfin has taken the annual Kendal in Bloom competition's flowery theme to a new level with a hat created by elderly people connected with Age Concern.
Now Coun Murfin is trying to wear her distinctive headgear as often as possible.
"I even tried to wear the hat for the mayor's parade but I wasn't allowed," she said.
The deadline for entries for this year's Kendal in Bloom Competition is next Friday (July 6) and Coun Murfin urges anyone who has not already done so to vie for gardening greatness.
