A FIELD in Settle close to the national park can be developed with around 16 new homes after developers got outline planning permission from Craven District Council.

The scheme by Francmanis Properties for the land off Ingfield Lane and Brockhole Lane would mirror a similar nearby development by the same developer, the council's planning committee heard.

Seven letters of objection, and one in support, had been received by the council, while Settle Town Council expressed its support.

Objector Jean Willis said she spoke for several residents of Brockhole View and Austwick Close, who had already suffered noise and disturbance while building work was taking place on other developments.

James Ellis of Rural Solutions, agents for Francmanis, said the family had lived in Settle for decades and currently lived next to the site.

He said there would be a buffer between existing gardens and the new homes and added the scheme had included feedback from the national park authority, which bordered the site.

Cllr Robert Heseltine said he would respect the support of the democratically elected parish council and believed, on balance, it represented a good development for Settle.

The scheme, which will have two access points, from Ingfield Lane and from Brockhole Lane, will include six two-bedroom, affordable homes.
