A MAN suffered multiple injuries at Honister Pass during a cycling event on Sunday morning.

The man, in his 40s, was one of the cyclists taking part in the Fred Whitton Challenge, suffered severe leg injuries and minor head and facial injuries.

The Great North Air Ambulance aircraft landed at the Slate Mine before being transported to the patient by event medics.

The doctor-led trauma team assessed and treated the man before he was flown to Royal Preston Hospital, where he arrived in a stable condition. 

The air ambulance was called out at 10.05am on May 7.
