A SOLO show from Green Door member Roger Bell is running in the sought after exhibition space at The Brewhouse at Burgundy’s in Kendal until July 31.

Roger trained in ceramics under Brian Starkey at Sutton College of Liberal Arts and his work has developed to use metal, wood and other materials.

He says his work is best described as sculpture for domestic interiors and gardens, eclectic inspirations that include the jigsaw form, buildings, furniture and containers: "I create two and three dimensional pieces ranging in size from maquettes of five centimetres to sculptures 125 centimetres tall,” explains Roger.

“My clay work starts with slabs of hand-building clay which are cut, assembled and then modelled. I employ a variety of glazes and firing methods - most often low-fired raku but also mid-range terracotta. I sometimes incorporate metal in the fired work and then assemble work incorporating found objects, carved wood, metal rods - whatever is required. Some of the artists who influence my work are Bridget Riley, Andy Goldsworthy, Anselm Kiefer and Edward Krasinski.”

Roger is also a member of Northern Potters, Scottish Potters, and Cumbria Sculptors, and regularly exhibits at their shows. His work is sold from galleries in the UK and at exhibitions in the UK and Europe.

His work is included in the Leicestershire Collection and private collections in UK, Germany, Netherlands and USA and sold in galleries across the UK.

The Brewhouse at Burgundy’s is located on Lowther Street.

Green Door Artists is a self-managed, not-for-profit artists’ co-operative originally based in Kendal but now with around 100 members from around Cumbria and north Lancashire.
