NETHERFIELD Cricket Club moved up to second in the Northern Premier League table thanks to a convincing win at home to Leyland on Saturday, much to the delight of captain Ben Barrow.

In a contest of two teams in the upper reaches of the division, Marc Hadwin took six wickets as Leyland were bowled out for 142, while Obus Pienaar hit 77 not out as the total was chased in just 26.2 overs.

"I spoke last week about putting in the complete performance and that was very to close to that," he said. "Everything clicked into place. We stuck to our plans with the ball and with the bat to chase down to the total so convincingly was very pleasing.

"You're always itching to play the top teams when you're on a good run so it came at a good time and we will be looking to build on that at Chorley."

Barrow added he expects a similar challenge when Netherfield travel to play Chorley on Saturday. The Lancashire side are currently fifth in the Northern Premier League having picked up four wins from their seven games so far and will be looking to respond to a weekend defeat again St Annes.

"I think we just need to continue doing what we've been doing," he said. "We need to just keep things simple and make sure everyone does their job."
