Cumbria County Council has received £4.6m from the Department for Transport to improve the county’s highway network as part of the National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF).

The funding is to be used to improve local roads, cut congestion and improve journey times.

Two improvement schemes in the Kendal area have been identified as projects to be delivered using part of this funding. The schemes are:

  • An improvement scheme at the junction of Mintsfeet Road and Shap Road, Kendal. The scheme would see either traffic signals or a mini roundabout at this location, in order to ease traffic congestion within this area of the town and to improve access to employment sites in the Mintsfeet Industrial Estate. The proposed works would commence in early 2018.
  • An improvement scheme along Hollins Lane, Burneside, near Kendal. The scheme would see widening of a section of Hollins Lane adjacent to Burneside Cricket Club in order to improve access from the A591 to Burneside.

The proposed changes are detailed on http://www.cumbria.gov.uk/roads-transport/highways-pavements/cumbria-highways/nationalproductivity.asp

Cumbria County Council is keen to understand the views of local residents and businesses on both improvement schemes.

Comments can be emailed to NPIF@cumbria.gov.uk, by Friday 30 June 2017.
