TWO Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) volunteers are to undertake a charity walk spanning 47 kilometres.

Will Reed and Tom Fairchild will trek the span of the team's operational area from Walney Island, in the south, to the summit of Harter Fell, at the top of the Duddon valley.

The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness of both Duddon and Furness MRT and mountain rescue in general.

The team's base at Foxfield will be open to members of the public from 11am-1pm on July 15, to coincide with the walkers passing through.

Other team members will be on hand to show visitors the team’s equipment, vehicles and control centre, with entertainment for all the family.

Duddon and Furness MRT was formed in 2003, when the Furness and Millom rescue teams combined.

On average it attends about 35 callouts a year, ranging from locating missing or vulnerable people on the fells, rescues of those injured in any inaccessible places, to helping the North West Ambulance Service access remote places.

It is made up of 40 voluntary members from all walks of life, providing a free emergency service for those in need.

Anyone who would like to support the venture can visit Foxfield on the day or make a donation via https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/dfmrt
