FOUR people were rescued from mud at Askam on Saturday evening.

Furness Coastguard along with Duddon Inshore-rescue were called to attend the rescue off Dunnerholme Golf Club at 5.38pm.

Duddon inshore lifeboat was launched within minutes and found the four people cut off by the 7.6m tide, expected at 6.52pm.

They were brought back to Duddon Inshore Boathouse, where they were checked over and spoken to about the dangers of the sands.

A spokesperson for the Furness Coastguard said: "We would like to thank Dunnerholme Golf Club for access to the beach and the first informant for calling 999 and requesting the Coastguard."
