ANTI-fracking protestors from South Lakeland travelled to Blackpool on Friday to join the ongoing action to prevent drilling by Cuadrilla.

Members of the South Lakes Action on Climate Change group made their voices heard at the Preston New Road site which has been the focus of media attention.

The group's Chris Rowley said: "Climate scientists such as Professor Kevin Anderson of the Tyndall Centre at Manchester say that UK starting up a fracking industry is incompatible with the direction of travel we must go to comply with meeting the temperature goals of the Paris Agreement.

"The government over-rode Lancashire County Council’s planning decision against Cuadrilla’s fracking proposals and is ignoring polls showing that more people are against fracking than for it."

He added that the Conservative Party is now isolated in its support for fracking with Labour, the Liberal Democrats and Greens all opposed.
