One recent Saturday I set off early for a quiet walk around Kendal for an enjoyable walk. Little did I know what was to follow:

I was crossing Stricklandgate at 9.20am at the designated crossing. There was standing traffic obeying the red light when from nowhere seven or eight cyclists appeared and totally ignored the red light, weaving their way passed cars and pedestrians.

A tandem had to swerve from one side of the road to another to avoid a collision.

Why do cyclists think they are above the law?

Then I proceeded into Kendal and found what appeared to be a building site outside the town hall (see photo above). What an eyesore.

Kendal is noticeably quieter this year. The question is, do we want visitors to return or not?
