THE WORDSWORTH Trust is displaying its draft plans to improve Town End for the benefit of visitors to Dove Cottage.

The plans are part of its ‘Reimagining Wordsworth’ project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Reimagining Wordsworth aims to tell the Wordsworth story more powerfully by changing the way the Trust's collection is presented.

A further objective of the project is to develop the space for a dedicated learning and activity centre, allowing the Trust to introduce new activities for schools, families and community groups.

“After many years of planning, we were delighted to secure a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to 'Reimagine’ Wordsworth in time for the poet’s 250th birthday in 2020," Michael McGregor, director of the Wordsworth Trust said.

"Throughout 2017 we will be working with a number of different consultants to explore how our site and our activities can develop, to ensure that as many people as possible can be part of, and can benefit from, this exciting project.”

Reimagining Wordsworth is currently in the development phase. This phase incorporates feedback and consultation from the community, the Trust’s existing and target audiences, as well as stakeholders and partners.

The Trust is also conducting a strategic fundraising programme to raise the final £1million match funding needed to make the £6.2 million project a reality.

It is hoped that Town End will become a literary heritage destination, enhanced to offer a more integrated and stimulating visitor

experience.

Jeff Cowton, curator and head of learning at The Wordsworth Trust said the project was ‘an opportunity to experience Wordsworth’s words in their freshness'.

"The project will allow more people to vividly feel their words and their meanings, broadening the appeal of the poet and his work," said.

Architects’ drawings are on display in the Jerwood Centre every day until July 26 and the Wordsworth Trust is seeking feedback from visitors.
