THE government must use funds saved by the shelving the Lakes Line electrification plans to invest in a passing loop to increase capacity, South Lakes MP Tim Farron said today.
The Gazette reported last week that the government had pulled the plug on a £16m plan for the electrification of the line. An independent study commissioned by the Lakes Line Community Rail Partnership suggests that a passing loop would cost just under £10million.
