PLANS to redevelop a Yorkshire Dales petrol station are poised for approval.

Co-op Estates wants to demolish the existing kiosk and an empty bungalow at Ingleton's Three Peaks Filling Station, on New Road and build a new ground-floor shop with offices and storage above.

Ingleton Parish Council has supported the plan but asked for a barrier to be installed to prevent the "nuisance of bikers" using the site after hours, according to planning documents.

Residents have written six letters of objection and one letter of observation to Craven District Council,. Their concerns include:

- extra noise created by extending the opening hours to 6am-11pm, Monday-Sunday

- young people congregating at the parking area after the shop has closed

- the need for a pelican crossing across the A65 main road

- screening to reduce dust and dirt for neighbours during demolition

- and an absence of customer toilets, leading to men urinating against a back wall.

Craven's planning committee is recommended to approve the plans when it meets on Wednesday (August 30).

In a report, planning officers say the new shop would create "an attractive place to work and visit". They say the increase in noise would not be unacceptable, given the site's location beside the busy A65 and an industrial estate. They add that a lack of toilets is not a material planning consideration.
