PLANS by a young Kirkby-in-Furness villager to build his own house met with refusal.
Gary Grieve had hoped for outline consent from South Lakeland District Council to build a detached dwelling on land at Head Cragg, off Marsh Side, Kirkby-in-Furness.
According to plans, Mr Grieve is "acutely aware of the haemorrhaging of young local folk from the community". Kirkby Ireleth Parish Council supported his wish to remain in the village by building on his family's land.
However, SLDC planners decided the plan would lead to open countryside being developed, and refused consent.
