ULVERSTON Business Improvement District (BID) is seeking business people to join the board and help decide how to spend almost £100,000 raised from the group's levy.

On October 19, a public meeting is taking place at the Coronation Hall to elect or re-elect five board members.

The meeting will also report back on how Ulverston BID has been spending almost £100,000 it collects from businesses in the town each year, and answer questions about the operation of the BID.

Members of the public can attend the meeting but only BID levy payers are eligible to vote or stand for election to the board.

The BID management board is made up of unpaid volunteers drawn from more than 450 businesses which pay the BID levy each year.

Over the next three years one third of the board is up for election each year.

The BID board draws its members from five business categories, with three places on the board from each category: large business, small business, retail, hospitality, charities and schools.

There are already vacancies for new board members to represent large business, retail, charities and schools.

Chris Nelson, chair of Ulverston BID, said: “The board has done a fantastic job and worked diligently to ensure that the money raised from local businesses is spent wisely, but we don’t have a monopoly on good ideas.

"The BID board needs people who are prepared to work for the benefit of Ulverston, and work with groups and organisations to make things happen."

Only one vote is allowed from each business paying the BID levy. BID levy payers are not eligible to sit on the board or vote if they are in arrears.

They need to bring to the meeting a BID levy payment demand as proof that they are eligible to vote.

Nominations giving the nominee’s name, business address and contact telephone or email must be received by October 16 emailed to Mr Nelson at chris@trafalgar-pr.co.uk or admin@ulverstonbid.org.uk. Alternatively call on 07761 930627.

The public meeting at the Coronation Hall starts at 6.30pm with an Environment Agency presentation and the BID meeting starts at 7.00pm.
