A GROUP of Chinese visitors were aided by mountain rescue at Esk Hause after they were found by another group of walkers.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) attended to the incident on Saturday (October 21) at 12.17pm.

A spokesperson for Keswick MRT said that the group had been found in 'distress' at Esk Hause shelter.

"They were cold, under equipped for the conditions and had become separated from one of their party, whilst trying to reach Scafell Pike," they said.

The guide of the walking group who discovered the visitors raised the alarm and offered to escort the casualties down Grains Gill to meet the MRT.

Wasdale MRT offered to cover the likely descent route from its side, while Keswick MRT set off to Seathwaite with two vehicles full of personnel and rewarming kit.

A team search dog was also mobilised, in case the missing member of the Chinese group did not appear.

Fortunately, the missing member of the Chinese party was located by the original informant as he brought the others down.

Here they were offered a lift through to Langdale where their transport had been parked.

"They had been extremely fortunate to encounter a well led group, who did exactly what you would want them to do in the event of a mountain incident," said the Keswick MRT spokesperson.
