A FREEMASON has been honoured at a ceremony to celebrate his golden jubilee in the order.

Russell Bloxsom, a member of the Arthur John Brogden Masonic lodge, which meets at Grange-over-Sands, became a freemason in 1967.

Originally from Durham, Mr Bloxsom first joined a lodge in Washington. On retirement he moved to the South Lakeland area and joined the Arthur John Brogden Lodge in 2008.

Leading the 50-year celebrations was principal guest David Grainger who presented Mr Bloxsom with a framed certificate in recognition of the milestone he had attained.

The lodge members included amongst their number Matt Hamilton and Craig Lenette who are only at the start of their masonic journey.

Representatives from his first lodge in Durham, along with masonic friends from East Lancashire and Wigan, had also come along to add their support.

Mr Bloxsom said: “I have enjoyed my masonry and it has helped me to find new acquaintances when I have moved from one area to another. I was made most welcome at Arthur John Brogden Lodge and immediately found myself amongst friends although I had just just moved into the area.”
