A MAN who died following a road traffic collision yesterday in east Cumbria has been identified.

Freddie Maitland, 28, of Kirkudbright, Scotland, was the driver of a Nissan 370z that was in collision with a Mercedes heavy goods vehicle on the A66 at Crackenthorpe, near Appleby.

He was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, but despite the best efforts of medical staff he died from his injuries.

The driver of the HGV, a 34-year-old man, was unhurt. The road was closed for more than six hours whilst forensic collision investigations were carried out.
